What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive treatment used to gently resurface and exfoliate the skin to reveal softer, cleaner and smoother skin. It can be administered as a stand-alone treatment or in combination with enzymes or mild chemical peels for deeper skin rejuvenating results.
For optimal results, it is recommended that you repeat this treatments every 3 weeks.
How does microdermabrasion work?
Prior to the exfoliation step of the microdermabrasion procedure, the skin is washed to remove excess oil, dirt and other pollutants.
Once the skin has been cleaned, the microdermabrasion step begins. Microdermabrasion is performed using a small handheld device with an aluminium oxide crystal tip. The crystal tip is run over the treatment area and helps remove dead cells on the skin’s surface. A vacuum on the tip of the device then gently suctions the dead skin cells away, which helps promote the stimulation of new collagen, revealing rejuvenated skin.
What is microdermabrasion used to treat?
Dermabrasion can help with a number of skin care concerns, including:
- Sun damage
- Redness and rhinophyma
- Age spots
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Precancerous skin patches
- Uneven skin tone
The procedure may be a little uncomfortable but shouldn’t hurt. However, the skin does have a tendency to be a bit tender after the procedure.
The results of the microdermabrasion procedure should appear almost immediately after the treatment.
There is no downtime following a microdermabrasion treatment. However, you may experience some mild redness in the treated area for several hours following the procedure. You can return to your normal skin care routine and apply cosmetics immediately following the treatment.
