Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that treats a wide range of skin issues. When performed by a qualified specialist, it’s an effective way to rejuvenate tired skin and eliminate discoloration, acne scars and other imperfections.
At The Med Spa at MIM, our team of experts provides safe, effective microneedling treatments to patients in the Matthews, Mint Hill, Indian Trail, Stallings, Monroe and greater Charlotte area. Schedule your in-personal or virtual consultation today!
Microneedling at The Med Spa at MIM
Microneedling involves stamping a small medical device tipped with tiny, sterile needles over the entire face to create micro-wounds. These pinpricks stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, proteins that are crucial to skin vitality.
When skin heals, it’s firmer and smoother. Blemishes such as stretch marks, hyperpigmentation or depressed (lowered) acne scars are less noticeable; in mild-to-moderate instances, they can be eliminated altogether after multiple treatments.
Before and After Photos
Please note that the patients featured in these images may have undergone other treatments in conjunction with microneedling. This photo gallery does not guarantee that everyone who undergoes microneedling will obtain these or similar results.
You’ll start to see changes in your skin about 1 week after your microneedling session. Improvements will continue over time, with the full results appearing 1–2 months after treatment. These results should last 3–5 months — and the better you take care of your skin by wearing a good SPF, the longer your results will last.
Who Are the Best Candidates for Microneedling?
Microneedling has an excellent safety profile for people of any age. Since this treatment addresses so many issues, almost anyone can benefit: by healing old scars, getting rid of dark spots or simply achieving a glowing complexion. One strong advantage is that unlike other skin resurfacing procedures, microneedling can be performed on any skin tone.
However, if you have keloid scars, active acne, any type of infection, eczema, psoriasis or other chronic skin condition, you’re not a good candidate for microneedling. You should also avoid this procedure if you are pregnant, nursing or immunosuppressed.
What Can You Treat With Microneedling?
Microneedling can improve an array of skin concerns including:
- Age spots
- Atrophic (depressed) acne scars
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Large pores
- Loose skin
- Rough skin texture
- Stretch marks
- Sun damage
- Traumatic scars
- Uneven skin tone
Depending on the issues you’re treating, you’ll likely need multiple treatments to achieve your goals. These sessions should be scheduled about 1 month apart. After your initial series of appointments, you may also choose to undergo maintenance treatments twice a year.
What to Expect During Your Microneedling Treatment
You should arrive at your appointment with a freshly washed face, wearing no makeup or skin care products.
To start off your treatment, our aesthetician will apply a numbing cream over the area to be needled and will wait about 20 minutes for the cream to take effect. Using a pen-shaped device, she will gently stamp the tiny needles over your entire face several times; the depth of penetration and number of repetitions is determined by the area being treated.
Next, she will apply a revitalizing, nourishing serum over the treated area. Due to the micro-wounds caused by the needles, the serum will absorb deeply into your skin. Lastly, a cooling mask will soothe your skin.
The numbing cream enables a pain-free process, although some clients report a scratching sensation on more sensitive areas of the face or toward the end of the session.
For 24 hours after your appointment, avoid applying cosmetics apart from fragrance-free moisturizers and refrain from any activity that causes excessive sweating. You should also avoid direct sunlight for 1 week.
As the numbing cream wears off, you may experience a stinging or throbbing sensation. Your skin will be red — similar to a sunburn. These side effects typically clear up after one day or two; meanwhile, use an ice pack to calm any inflammation.

Not quite. Dermarolling is a particular type of microneedling in which a device tipped with tiny needles is rolled over your face. Due to the device’s rolling action, its needles enter your skin at an angle, creating additional damage below the skin’s surface.
At The Med Spa at MIM, we use a device with a stamping mechanism rather than a rolling one. The up-and-down micro-wounds created by this device cause less damage to the skin, helping you heal faster with better results.
